Colistin belongs to the polymerase group, which has a strong and rapid reaction to gram-negative microbes, especially Salmonella and E. coli. Collastin gives a deadly effect on bacteria by gluing to its wall and causing surface tension of the bacterial cell membrane, causing its destruction.
Colostatin is slowly absorbed from the intestine and is therefore used to treat gastrointestinal infections such as basal enteritis and salmonella.
